Petra Jaya MP Fadilah Yusof was visibly upset when he could make his time to attend to complaint from villagers of Kampung Wawasan Jaya, Samariang Kubur, Kuching but not Sarawak Development Office officials.
“May be to them this project is a small project, but to the people it is a very important issue,” a dismayed Fadilah told the press.
Fadilah has to calm down a former Chief Minister Political Secretary, Ambi Nen who raised his voice to express his displeasure at the contractor poor workmanship.
Ambi in his typical no hold barred style told Fadilah that his complain to the relevant office was not attended to, probably because he is just a Kampung goon.
He also told Fadilah that he had personally monitor the project and demanded the said sub-contractor of the job to follow the specification.
Ambi insisted that the project has caused problem to the people instead of relieving them of the inconveniences.
Fadilah asked for the contractor but no representative from the company came. SDO, on the other hand was only sending its technician.
“I am not happy with the quality of this project and the attitude of your staff,” Fadilah was heard telling SDO director over the phone, and instruct his private secretary to draft a letter to the Prime Minister that he would personally signed over the incident today.
Fadilah therefore promised to Ambi and the unhappy villagers that he would call for a meeting involving all the relevant authorities, the latest by March this year to solve the problem.
This is not the first time SDO projects came under scrutiny because the Sarawak Update also received similar complaints from Lundu and Betong, indicating that it is a Statewide affair. Ironically, these on the spot awarded job that cost RM200,000 each were being approved conveniently if the benefactors are not making noise.
Perhaps, just perhaps, Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) should pay the contractors and project supervisors involved a visit. May be they are too busy.
